Osasuna vs Real Betis
March 22, 2008
23/3- Osasuna and Real Betis are among the 8 teams fighting it out to keep away from the relegation zone and in an attempt to keep their selves safe from the relegation zone, Osasuna play hosts to the visiting Real Betis team. While Osasuna are a couple of points away from the relegation zone, Real Betis are out of the danger zone only on a better goal difference. However the notable fact is that Real Betis have played a match less than most of the other teams and hence they also have a good chance to move away from the relegation zone. In terms of the current form both the teams can be said to be at par as both teams have registered 4 wins, 4 losses and a couple of draws in the last 10 matches. In the last match between the sides that was played earlier this season ended in favour of Osasuna, who won 0-3, away from home. Even the overall record is in favour of Osasuna by a very small difference as of the 13 matches played Osasuna have won 6 while Real Betis have managed to win 5 only.
Osasuna would be quite confident as they managed to hold a good team like Valladolid for a tie in an away match last week and also a fact that they have performed well while playing at home would add to that when they take on Real Betis this weekend. Gomes Dady has been the best striker for Osasuna this season and has already scored 6 goals and he would be expected to score once again.
Real Betis have also performed well to get out of the relegation zone but they have quite a few injury worries and they would have to put a good performance to ensure that they can stay out of the relegation zone.
Prediction: 1-2, Real Betis win
Real Betis vs Athletic Club Bilbao
March 14, 2008
15/3- In an almost even contest 15th placed Real Betis get prepared to take on 13th placed Athletic Club Bilbao in a home tie. With both these sides separated by a single point and two places they also look to be in almost identical form. Real Betis might just hold the advantage playing at home as they have managed to win the last two matches they played at home while one was a 4-0 drubbing of Murcia the other was a surprise 2-1 win over the league leaders, Real Madrid. Hence it will be difficult for the visiting Athletic Club Bilbao to beat Real Betis in this home tie. Also looking at the last match played between the two sides which was earlier this season it is evident that the contest will be closely fought one as the last match also ended in 0-0 draw. However in the overall head to head Real Betis do hold a definitive advantage as of the last 25 matches played they have won 8 times while Athletic Club Bilbao has managed just 5 victories.
Real Betis come back home after losing their last match against Racing Santander playing away from home and would be hoping to recover some lost points. They are a side that has done well playing at home in the recent past and have come out of relegation with a lot of grit and should do well again playing at home. Schmidt and Pavone would make the big difference to this side and their contribution would be very crucial.
Athletic Club Bilbao on the other hand enter this match on a comparatively positive note as they were able to win their last match which was played against Valladolid last week. Though their away form has been fairly good it would be an uphill task beating Real Betis at this point of time while they are playing at home.
Prediction: 1-0, Real Betis win
Racing Santander vs Real Betis
March 8, 2008
9/3- Racing Santander have performed exceedingly well this season and as a result they currently occupy the 6th spot on the points table, they have not scored as many goals as the other top teams but have been disciplined throughout the season and ensured that opponents are not able to score high number of goals as well. They get ready to take on a fighting Real Betis who have fought their way out of the relegation zone and currently are placed on the 11th spot. The last match between the two sides ended in a draw but the overall record stands heavily in favour of the visiting side. In the 23 matches played between the two teams Real Betis have managed 7 victories while Racing Santander have only managed to have 3 victories while the other 13 have been draws. Also both the teams are equal in terms of their recent form as both the teams have won 4 matches, lost 3 matches and drawn 3 matches in their last 10 matches.
Racing Santander would be hoping to capitalise on the home advantage and score some crucial points, they enter this match after back to back victories and this would help them keep their confidence quite high as well. Their last week’s 1-0 victory against Valladolid in an away tie was a great example of the form they are in. They have a very good defence and a good performance at the front can help them win more matches.
Real Betis on the other hand have improved leaps and bounds to ensure their stay in the top league for the next year as well but the players need to be careful and not be complacent. Their last week’s home win against Murcia would have made the players feel relaxed and confident/
Prediction: 0-0 draw
Real Betis vs Murcia
March 2, 2008
3/2- Real Betis are a team that has gained life once again, after being in the relegation zone they came up with a great surprise when the beat leaders Real Madrid in a home tie and they were able to hold on the higher ranked Mallorca last week in an away tie. The team has managed to stay out of the relegation zone and would be confident ahead of their home tie this week against a struggling second last placed Murcia team. The last time both the teams faced each other the match ended in a goalless draw but the home team would expect to have some more life into this match and score at least a goal that could help them claim three points and move away from the relegation zone. The teams have not played each other on many occasions but of the three matches played 2 have been draws while Real Betis have managed to win one. As the home side they would be hoping to take the advantage of playing at home and get the maximum points of the match.
Murcia have lost 6 of their last seven matches while only one match has been drawn, the team will be down on confidence as they have lost the last three matches and have not been able to score a single goal as well. They also look to be a certain relegated team as they are already 6 points behind the 18th placed team.
Real Betis on the other hand have started to play to their potential and are winning matches, their form at home has been even better and they would like the most of it. Schmidt and Pavone are the two players that would make the difference to their side and can turn the match on the basis of the individual performance.
Prediction: 1-0, Real Betis win
Mallorca vs Real Betis
February 23, 2008
24/2- It might be one of the most evenly contested match this week as Mallorca play hosts to Real Betis. Both teams have moved a little away from the relegation zone and are trying to establish themselves in a comfort zone. While Mallorca are placed 11th on the points table, Real Betis are on the 14th spot but the difference in points between the two teams is just one. While Mallorca have been struggling to find the winning goal and have drawn the last three matches played Real Betis would go into this match with a positive frame of mind as they beat the league leaders real Madrid at home last week. The last time both these teams took on each other was earlier this season when Real Betis blanked out Malloca 3-0 in a home tie. The overall head to head record however is tilted in Mallorca’s favour as they have won 9 of the 19 matches while Real Betis have won just 8.
The home team would be hoping to make the most of the crowd support and get a full three points of this match especially after they have not been able to get more than a point in the last three matches. The problem for them has been that they have not been able to create chances but are heavily relying on mistakes from the opposition. Guiza has been the premiere striker and if he can deliver Mallorca would just get the edge over their competitors.
Real Betis on the other hand have come a long way from being in the relegation zone to a team that beat the league leaders. They would be oozing with confidence and would be raring to go against Mallorca and a win here would do a world of good to the side. They do have the potential but now it is how well they use it.
Prediction: 1-2, Real betis win
Real Betis vs Real Madrid
February 15, 2008
16/2- Real Betis are going through a phase of matches against tougher oppositions, the team placed 16th on the points table is just a point out of the relegation zone and would need to put up a great performance against the league leaders, Real Madrid. After two losses in a row Real Betis would get ready to take on Real Madrid at home. The visiting team are in ominous form and are under no pressure as they have a comfortable 8 point cushion over the second placed Barcelona but the home team is struggling and fighting to avoid relegation. In the encounter between both the teams earlier this season Real Madrid defeated Real Betis 2-0 in a home encounter and would be looking to repeat the same performance this time as well. Looking at the last 10 matches between the sides Real Madrid have not lost a single match playing at home or away while they have managed to win 6 times.
Real Betis have lost their last match against Valencia in an away tie and they would like to make up for it with at least a point in the home tie however it would not be that easy, especially against an opponent like Real Madrid. Pavone is their leading striker and has scored 6 goals this season and would be expected to play a key role in this match as well.
Real Madrid on the other hand would be more than eager to take on the field again after they devastated Valladolid 7-0 last week, playing at home. It seems as though the loss to Almeria got them going again. With Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Raul in great touch the club and the fans are almost assured of retaining the title, the question now is that how far ahead they would be at the end of the season.
Prediction: 0-3, Real Madrid win
Valencia vs Real Betis
February 9, 2008
10/2- Valencia were on the way downwards and all of a sudden they found a new lifeline last week when they managed to beat Valladolid in an away tie and were able to maintain a spot in the top half of the table. They are placed on the 9th position and would be looking to continue the form they have gained again, Valencia had kick started this season and were looked upon as a side that would challenge Real Madrid and Barcelona in the title race but then a slide in the middle of the season they were on their way out of the top 10 before this victory against Valladolid last week. Now they prepare themselves to take on Real Betis in a home tie. Real Betis were once in the relegation zone and their climb to the 14th position is a credit to the determination they have shown to stay in the top league. Though not completely out of the trouble they are in a much better position than they were a month or two ago.
Valencia would be awaiting the return of star striker Morientes and in his absence Villa Sanchez would have to carry the load of scoring the goals. Valencia would also be confident of winning the tie as they have defeated the same opponents in an away tie in the beginning of this season with 1-2 margin. Also the overall record suggests that Valencia have been dominant as they have won 14 of the 25 matches whereas 6 have been draws.
Real Betis on the other hand are a side that is rising on the points table and would like to score at least a point of this match. With Pavone in their side the visitors have the striker to make the difference but they would have to bring in all efforts and resources together in order steal some points while taking on Valencia at their home ground.
Prediction: 1-1, draw
Real Betis vs Deportivo La Coruna
February 2, 2008
2/2- Real Betis are the team on a comeback, After a dismal first half of the season when they spent most of their time in the relegation time they have started their climb up since the beginning of the second half. They have climbed up to the14th spot and they have moved away a good three points from the relegation zone, a great achievement for a team that was mostly in the bottom three. After a good win last week away from home, Real Betis play hosts to Deportivo La Coruna at home. Deportivo are on the 19th place on the points table and they too are trying hard to ensure their stay in the top league, they also put up a spirited performance last week to win the home tie and keep hopes alive for the players and the fans. The last when the team met in the first half of the season Deportivo were playing at home and won 1-0 but on current form that might not matter that much.
Real Betis were playing against Espanyol in an away tie last week and they surprised everyone by defeating the 5th placed side 1-2, this was just the second win for the side away from home and 5 of the 6 wins for Real Betis have come in the last 10 matches. With Pavone and Schmidt in good form the side can surely get the victory. With the home crowd behind them they would find a lot more support and the chances of a victory would surely increase.
Deportivo La Coruna have also pulled up a victory against Valladolid last week to register the 5th victory of the season, they still have a long way to go in terms of a route out of the relegation zone. They would try to at least get a point of this game so that the points keep on adding.
Prediction: 2-0, Real Betis win
Espanyol vs Real Betis
January 26, 2008
27/1- Espanyol was one team to beware of in the first half of this season and all of a sudden there has been a change of fortunes for them. The team has lost its last two matches and also some grip on the challenge it posed to the front runners. But the noticeable point is that even after losing two matches they still are not out of contention of the top 3 places in the league. They would be hoping that they get back to their old form when they take on the 16th placed Real Betis. Real Betis have been were consistently featuring in the relegation zone for a good part of the season but their performance in recent times has lifted them out of the bottom three. But all their points have come playing at home and hence Espanyol would want to capitalise on the fact that their opponents have won only a single game while playing 10 games away from home this season and lost 5.
Espanyol enter this match after losing 2-1 to Valladolid in their last match and this would make their urge for a victory even stronger. Playing at home Espanyol would be looking at a good home support so that they can reverse their fortunes and get back in the race for a top 3 finish. A lot would be expected from Tamudo, the leading goal scorer for Espanyol this season, who has managed 10 goals this season. Also Luis Garcia is expected to play an important role as the playmaker in the side. Espanyol have enough potential but they would have to convert it into results.
Real Betis on the other hand would be riding on the form they have gained in the past weeks. They were held to a 1-1 draw in a home draw against Reacreativo Huelva last week and even a point here would be fine as it could possibly help them maintain the distance from the relegation zone.
Prediction: 3-0, Espanyol win
Real Betis vs Recreativo Huelva
January 19, 2008
20/1- The second half of the season is a blessing in disguise for the fans at Real Betis, the team was struggling in the relegation zone for the major part of the first season and now find themselves in the 16th position, a couple of positions out of the danger zone. Though the difference between them and the bottom 3 is just a single point, the important thing is that they have been able to move out of it. After beating Getafe in a thrilling 3-2 encounter at home they now get prepared to take on Recreativo Huelva at home again. Recreativo are just a place behind Real Betis and are equal on points but their form looks to have taken a dip and last week’s loss to Vallodolid just added salt to injury. Their away form has been miserable and in such a situation it can be quite tricky for them to take on an improving team like Real Betis.
Real Betis have won their last match and would like to continue the winning run and next week they travel to Espanyol, which would be a tougher tie and hence they would like to score the maximum amount of points from this match. Playing against an opponent like Recreativo, who have been facing a lot of problems themselves. Winning 3 of their last 5 matches and with Pavone and Caffa in great form, it all seems good for Real Betis. They would be expecting to score a few goals and probably climb a few more positions on the points table.
Recreativo are dangerously moving towards the danger zone and have been able to manage 3 draws in the last 4 matches but they need to get back to winning ways in order to get themselves to a safer position but against Real Betis at home looks quite difficult.
Prediction: 2-0, Real Betis win
